The dog days of summers end are in sight here in the everglades and Naples. I love this time of year in September-November as all of the visitors do not come to The Everglades and Ten-thousand islands until after the holidays of Thanksgiving and X-mas. It also means the big snook are still on the outside beaches and river mouths along with lots of Tarpon still hanging around waiting on the big southern migration. Any drop in water temperature will produce balls of bait on the outside passes especially on outgoing tides. These ‘bait balls’ will have tarpon, big jacks, false albacore and many other species in a feeding frenzy! A great time of year to book a fly fishing guide in the everglades and Naples!
Fly fishing the Ten Thousand Islands is an experience you will never forget. The Ten Thousand islands are a chain of islands and mangrove islets off the Gulf coast of Southwest Florida, between the southern end of Marco Island and the mouth of Lostman’s River. The Northern part of the Ten Thousand Islands is the Ten-Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge, and the southern part, south of Everglades City, is Everglades National Park. These government protected waters and coastlines offer endless mangroves and flats, unique untouched environments, and provide premium opportunities to target un-pressured trophy fish such as tarpon, snook, redfish, sea trout and bass among other species. The 99-mile long Wilderness Waterway also runs through this remote and beautiful area. Almost all of the Ten Thousand Islands (which actually number in the hundreds) are uninhabited except for the largest, Chokolokee, which make these waters a prime thriving habitat for fish, without the disruption of human daily traffic. Because these fish are so unpressured, fly fishing the Ten Ten-Thousand Islands can be very productive, and a unique experience you wont have to share with crowds. Their proximity to Everglades National Park also make this chain of islands perfect for fly fishing enthusiasts and adventure seekers. But the wild landscape also necessitates a fishing guide, someone who can show you where to go, navigate the environment, and safely put you on the Tarpon or Snook on your bucket list.
I am very passionate about being a 10,000 Islands fishing guide and I’m excited to show my fishery to both the beginning angler and to the most experienced anglers alike. Ten thousand islands fly and plug fishing should be on any angler’s bucket list, as it is a locale that offers minimal boat traffic and a pristine fishery. I believe I am lucky enough to be able to live out my passion as a full time fly fishing guide in Ten-thousand Islands because of my high level of customer service and dedication to find fish in any conditions when other guides cannot. I chose my career to be a Ten-thousand islands fishing guide and I want to help share my enthusiasm and expertise with other fishing enthusiasts while exploring one of the best fisheries on the planet. Fish of the 10000 Islands see much less pressure than most guided Florida fishing areas also because of it’s tough navigation; recreational anglers often cannot fish this area alone as the waters are very shallow, and studded with oyster beds.
I guide out of two different skiffs depending on the season and target species. I run a larger 18 foot skiff powered by a 115 Suzuki for fishing tarpon, which allows for longer runs and more stability. I use a shallow draft skiff in the wintertime with a 60 Suzuki for targeting trophy snook, redfish, baby tarpon and bass when the tides are low and most boats cannot access the areas. I pole a skiff 100% of the time and do not use trolling motors whenever possible. I believe this gives my fly and plug clients the advantage over some guides that will not put in the work to pole a skiff for long days. Poling throughout our trip gives us stealth when stalking and hunting Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, juvenile fish, Bass, Trout, or whatever species, as many of the fish we encounter in the 10,000 Islands may have never seen or heard a motor before. We would like to keep it that way.
With many options to stay and play around Ten Thousand Islands, it is very family friendly with plenty of activities that are in close proximity to world-class fly-fishing. Sight casting triple digit tarpon and trophy snook in 10,000 Islands is worth building any vacation around. I am raising my family in the area and I can recommend a variety of non-fishing guided activities for any family members to do while we chase trophy fish in Ten-Thousand Islands on a once in a lifetime guided fishing adventure!
Please don’t hesitate to call and chat- I am off the water by dark and love to chat with fellow anglers about the endless opportunities when hiring me as your personal fly fishing guide in Ten Thousand Islands. I am a client’s dream as a fly fishing guide; I fish long hours and I am 110% dedicated to the sport of catching monster fish on the fly!
Planning your fall/winter trip to Florida hopefully involves some fishing and if it does somewhere deep in the Everglades should be on your list. Definitely the top winter fishery while the Keys rival the location in the early summer. I pick up on Chokoloskee Island which is a 5 minute drive from Everglades City. Everglades City is 45minutes from beautiful Naples, 30 minutes from Marco Island and 2 hours from Miami/Fort Lauderdale area. It is centrally located between major airports and lots of hotels and dining close by. I do recommend staying overnight in Everglades City a night to see the Old Florida charm of a last of its kind fishing village. Fall fishing will be on fire and everything will get in place including big and small tarpon, big snook and schooling redfish. Fall is a time before many second home owners travel to their winter homes in Fl so many days you do not even see another boat on the water which lends itself to literally endless opportunities at on of the most unique fisheries in the US. I recommend booking your Tarpon migration dates early as they will fill up! (Feb-April) I look forward to chatting with you about what is going on in the park if you are looking for a Everglades fly fishing guide!
Here is look at the upcoming fishing season!
Post storm fish have been on fire! Everglades and Naples fly fishing has been productive for mid-sized tarpon, big snook and redfish. With the tannic water these fish will be on the top and ready to eat. Its a great time to fish The Everglades when everyone is dealing with wind, rain and other boats! None of those bother us in the protection of the tall mangrove trees there is always somewhere to hide. Adult Tarpon fishing was good prior to the front and should stabilize after the water settles and clears. I just love the time after the rains as it seems like the place is flushing out and as good as it gets. Come inquire about a fly fishing guide in the everglades and ten-thousand islands.
I teach about the estuary and encourage first time fly fisherman and plug fisherman alike. I am passionate about both kinds of angling here in the everglades and ten-thousand islands. I am located south of naples so can always meet up for some fly-casting lessons or refer you to one of my master casting instructors in the area. I look forward to your next fishing adventure in the beautiful Everglades!
Most saltwater anglers scratch their heads when the cold front comes through and everything that was happening starts to stop, thats what I pride myself in; finding my clients quality fishing opportunities in even the worst of fronts. Snook, Tarpon and Bass are very predictable in The Everglades. Thats why you hire me as your Everglades fly fishing guide, I stay on the water! I have seen this year after year and the fishing heats up once the fish are comfortable with the cooler water temperatures, they are not going anywhere, not migrating or spawning yet so they are easily located. Ive had explosive tarpon fishing for triple digit tarpon fly fishing the Everglades and Naples area when the water temps drop and they do not “show” techniques and areas are key and then after we get our tarpon on the fly out of the way we go after some trophy snook and I love getting fooled by a largemouth bass in snook country, thats why I love being a Everglades fly fishing guide, we just go fish untouched water and we never know what we are going to catch; Bass, snook, and the mighty tarpon are of course my main targets but being secluded in a park the size of the everglades and getting the opportunities to guide great clients out of Marco Island and Naples is why I’ll never really work a day in my life, its way too much fun to call it work.
Lets get after it! I will be following the migration I still have June dates available if you are looking for a Boca Grande tarpon fly fishing guide
Looking for a Boca Grande fly fishing guide? Its going to be an early migration this year which is great news for The Everglades and Boca Grande. Migratory tarpon are thick in the everglades currently and going to get better and better, May and June with be great for a fly fishing trip in the Everglades or Boca Grande. I have these fish eating larger patterns and plugs currently and will size down as we move to the outside for the real migration. I have a lot of great dates available for a Tarpon fly fishing charter in Boca Grande. Fly fishing Naples area will be productive throughout southwest florida until July, book your trip early as it is filling up!
These next two months I migrate toward these giants, I am in full on Tarpon mode at this point with still fishing for snook when the opportunities arise. I pick up at Chokoloskee Island and have lodging options available for traveling guest. The Everglades in March and April are worth planning a trip around, I still have a day or two available each month along with good May and June dates to chase these magical fish. Tarpon deserve all the credit, best fish that swims in any water know to man and readily eats flies and plugs with some serious acrobatic maneuvers. I love them when they so peacefully roll and gulp air then once hooked they turn into the most aggressive animal Ive ver seen. We have been getting them good on multiple trips, the fish of a lifetime! Give me a call for Boca Grande fly fishing for tarpon or Everglades fly fishing for tarpon.
